Skyrail Cairns Rainforest Cableway and Kuranda Scenic Rail
The picturesque mountain retreat of Kuranda Village is just 60km southwest of Port Douglas and is surrounded by World Heritage Rainforest. Visitors can travel to Kuranda on the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway, over the rainforest on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway or by car or bus via the spectacular Kuranda Range Road.
Cairns Skyrail Rainforest Cableway
Cairns Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is situated on the northern outskirts of Cairns about 45 minutes drive south from Port Douglas. The Skyrail is a three stage cable car service that takes you on an incredible journey above the World Heritage listed Tropical Rainforest. Spanning 7.5kms of rainforest your Skyrail journey allows you to discover the wonders of an ancient tropical eco system. Your stop at both Red Peak Station and Barron Falls Station will allow you the opportunity to learn more about this fascinating and uniquely diverse part of the world.
Suspended just metres above the tree tops the six-person gondola cabins are a thrilling experience with breathtaking views of Cairns northern beaches and the Coral Sea.
In 2013 Skyrail introduced their Diamond View glass bottomed gondolas offering an amazing view of the rainforest canopy directly beneath your feet. Diamond view gondolas are an optional extra that can be requested when you book your Cairns Skyrail experience.
Gondolas depart continuously between 9:00am and 5:15pm with Diamond View gondolas at seven minute intervals. We recommend you allow an hour and a half for your Skyrail journey to give you sufficient time to take in all that there is to see and do at the two stations along the way.
Your Skyrail journey via Red Peak and Barron Falls ultimately brings you to Kuranda, the village in the rainforest.
Stay connected! Skyrail now offers guests free Wi-Fi at the Smithfield terminal, the Kuranda terminal and at Barron Falls Station. Take advantage of this free service and upload your Skyrail experience to your favourite social media as it happens!
